Not a silly question at all — this is actually one of the core technical challenges. You’re right that Qualcomm AR1 changes the Linux story. AR1 was originally designed around the Android ecosystem. Android uses the Linux kernel, but its hardware stack, HALs, vendor drivers, firmware, and runtime assumptions are very different from a standard Linux environment. So our work is not just “put Linux on AR1.” A big part of the work is adapting or bridging the Android-oriented hardware abstraction layer into Linux services and MonoOS APIs, while keeping the developer experience as open and practical as possible. To be honest, this is harder than the previous RK platform. But AR1 gives us a much stronger foundation for camera, audio, AI, and system performance, so we believe the upgrade is worth it. Our goal hasn’t changed: MonoOS should be open, Linux-native, and developer-first. Some low-level vendor firmware may not be fully open because of the SoC ecosystem, but we don’t want developers locked into a closed companion app or black-box workflow. So when we say “open Linux,” we mean developers should be able to build, deploy, test, and integrate with MonoOS directly — with standard Linux-style access where possible, and MonoOS APIs where glasses-specific control is needed.
